As a Man Thinketh: The Complete Original Edition and Master of Destiny: A GPS Guide to Life

Price: $0.00
(as of May 01, 2024 19:57:20 UTC – Details)

Read for the first time by an all-female cast

James Allen’s revolutionary treatise on the power of thought, combined with the bonus audiobook Mastery of Destiny.

Originally published in 1903, James Allen’s As a Man Thinketh reveals the fundamental truth of human nature: “A man is literally what he thinks.” Allen’s deceptively simple principle has changed the lives of millions of readers and listeners, making As a Man Thinketh a classic best seller for decades.

Allen explains that our character, identity, ability, and success are all determined by the thoughts in our minds. Instead of finding ourselves victims of the world, there exists within each of us the ability to shape and define our own destinies. Finances, health, social status, and success are all external manifestations of the thoughts that populate our minds. Allen offers listeners an opportunity to seize control of their minds and in doing so create the lives they’ve always imagined.

This new edition combines As a Man Thinketh with another of Allen’s companion works, Mastery of Destiny. In Mastery of Destiny, Allen reveals that the natural progression of human evolution is away from the evil that results from ignorance and toward ultimate good. Combined in one program, these two audiobooks offer a revolutionary outlook of empowerment.

This program is read by: Adelia Saunders, Barrie Kreinik, Carly Robins, Eleanor Hutchins, Emily Bauer, Emily Lawrence, Fiona Hardingham, Greer Morrison, Joel Fotinos, Natalie Naudus, Sophie Amoss, Therese Plummer, Vivienne Leheny, and Xe Sands.

Billy Kelly: This Is a Family Show!

Price: $0.00
(as of Apr 20, 2024 06:09:24 UTC – Details)

Billy Kelly’s This Is a Family Show! is a stand-up comedy experience (with music) that parents and kids can enjoy together. From jokes about nocturnal animals and microwaves to Ben Franklin and people throwing turtles, the whole family will laugh along while listening to this comedian’s unique perspectives. It’s comedy toast with the crust cut off. Who needs all that crusty talk about dating, politics, and money, anyway?

Over the first two decades of his career, Grammy-nominated family entertainer Billy Kelly has opened for President Barack Obama, duetted with Davy Jones of The Monkees, and released a critically acclaimed family-friendly, stand-up comedy album – in that order. Billy loves making people laugh and doesn’t see why kids can’t be in on the fun.

“An endearingly oddball sense of humor.” (National Public Radio)

“Stand-up that some have found offensively clean.” (The New York Times)

Cruising the Movies: A Sexual Guide to Oldies on TV (Semiotext(e) / Active Agents)

Price: $14.73
(as of Apr 19, 2024 21:37:16 UTC – Details)

A writer casts an acerbic, queer eye on the greats and the not-so-greats of Hollywood’s Golden Age.

Ronnie Reagan’s bizarre legs are sufficient reason to watch John Loves Mary (1949), a picture so ordinaire it needs this bizarre touch. When the faces in this historic still from the Museum of Modern Art are cropped, Reagan could pass for a butch lez from the Women’s Army Corps who is about to put the old make on a fluff (Patricia Neal).
—from Cruising the Movies

Cruising the Movies was Boyd McDonald’s “sexual guide” to televised cinema, originally published by the Gay Presses of New York in 1985. The capstone of McDonald’s prolific turn as a freelance film columnist for the magazine Christopher Street, Cruising the Movies collects the author’s movie reviews of 1983–1985. This new, expanded edition also includes previously uncollected articles and a new introduction by William E. Jones.

Eschewing new theatrical releases for the “oldies” once common as cheap programing on independent television stations, and more interested in starlets and supporting players than leading actors, McDonald casts an acerbic, queer eye on the greats and not-so-greats of Hollywood’s Golden Age. Writing against the bleak backdrop of Reagan-era America, McDonald never ceases to find subversive, arousing delights in the comically chaste aesthetics imposed by the censorious Motion Picture Production Code of 1930–1968.

Better known as the editor of the Straight to Hell paperback series—a compendia of real-life sexual stories that is part pornography, part ethnography—McDonald in his film writing reveals both his studious and sardonic sides. Many of the texts in Cruising the Movies were inspired by McDonald’s attentive inspection of the now-shuttered MoMA Film Stills Archive, and his columns gloriously capture a bygone era in film fandom. Gay and subcultural, yet never reducible to a zany cult concern or mere camp, McDonald’s “reviews” capture a lost art of queer cinephilia, recording a furtive obsession that once animated gay urban life. With lancing wit, Cruising celebrates gay subculture’s profound embrace of mass culture, seeing film for what it is—a screen that reflects our fantasies, desires, and dreams.
