I thought Amanda is "immune" to the sound of firecrackers and fireworks.
For the first 10 days of her life, there isn’t a day that firecrackers weren’t lit outside the hospital.
The locals loves to light firecrackers when leaving the hospital with a newborn. Another at upon reach home. And every other day within the first month, the friends of the new daddy can come and lit one outside the door.
She remains immune and fearless of the loud noise for the whole of last year and even before we leave for our trip to Shenzhen / Wuhan last month, the brave girl was still fascinated and staring in awe at the fireworks outdoor together with us.
There was a wedding in our estate hence a reason for for more fireworks.
Right till, the first day of Chinese new year, she would run to us at the first l
sound of the firecrackers and fireworks, wanting to be carried and hugged us real tight.
And yesterday, during the 10 minutes of ‘choreographed’ fireworks display (had the professionals in helmut come in to light each and every box of fireworks with their cigarettes), Amanda was indoor and repeatedly placed her hands on her chest and said 怕.
She does the same when she sees photos of fireworks on my phone or hears and sees fireworks in the sky miles away.
She still enjoys the bright sparkles though.
To me, showing fear means my little girl is growing up. And is becoming less of a baby.
She turns 18 months old today, according to the lunar calendar.
