Wythall

London Midland Class 172 DMU No. 172334 calls at Wythall while working 2S48 1357 Stourbridge Junction – Stratford upon Avon on 2nd June 2015. Services between Stourbridge and Stratford run hourly during the day, and are now supplemented by trains using the more direct and faster route via Dorridge to Shakespeare’s birthplace. Wythall is located between Whitlocks End and Earlswood, serving an area of rural south Warwickshire. It opened in July 1908 as Grimes Hill Platform, becoming Grimes Hill & Wythall Halt in 1914. some other variations took place before finally becoming simply ‘Wythall’ in 1974. It also caters for Birmingham commuter traffic, with passenger numbers rising from 33,000 in 2005 to 55,000 in 2014. Copyright John Whitehouse – all rights reserved
