There’s an issue with Xbox Gift Cards that my viewers tell me about almost everyday. And since you’re watching this video your Xbox must be asking you about a profile address when you try to use or redeem your gift card. Now there could be a couple of things happening here. The first is simply that you haven’t provided your billing address in your Xbox account. But I don’t think that is the main problem here.
What’s causing the Xbox to ask you to enter your profile address is most-likely because your gift card is from another region. Whether you know it or not, Xbox Gift Cards are region locked. That means they only work in the country or region they were issued in. For example, if you bought an Xbox Gift Card from the UK and you live in the US, you won’t be able to use that card here in the US. So you’ll have to consider where your gift card came from. If you bought your card from a legitimate source then you shouldn’t have a problem.
Here are the trusted places I recommend getting your cards from. A local store where you can buy a physical gift card in your city. But for digital codes, you should buy directly online from your country’s Xbox or Microsoft website. Your local Amazon website is also good for digital codes. From these sources you can be guaranteed to get a digital code from your own region. However if you bought online from a third party website or discount link chances are that you might receive a card or code from a random country. And since these websites usually only deliver codes it’s pretty much impossible to know what country it came from if you run into an issue.
So what can you do if the Xbox is asking for a profile address? I’ve heard you could change the region and address settings on your console and Xbox account but then you’d still have to know what country the gift card came from. And then you’d have to remember to switch it back at some point. This could get confusing if you have different gift card currencies in your Xbox account.
The other thing you could do is see if you can exchange the gift card code for one that’s from your country. But depending on where you bought your card I’m not very optimistic about this option. So if your Xbox is asking you for a profile address, it’s mainly because Xbox Gift Cards are region locked and because the currency on the card doesn’t match the country that you’re trying to use it in.

In this video, I’ll explain what you can and cannot purchase with an Xbox Gift Card. Your Xbox Gift Card works just like money on the Xbox online store and the 25-digit code can be redeemed on your console or at Xbox.com. In addition, a Windows Gift Card works exactly the same as an Xbox Gift Card.
Once you redeem your gift card, you can use it to buy games, movies, TV show, music and apps from any Microsoft online store, Windows online store or Windows Phone store. But there are some limitations to what you can buy.
First off, your Xbox or Windows Gift Card cannot be used to purchase an Xbox Live Gold subscription. Microsoft just doesn’t allow that. To buy Xbox Live Gold, you need to use a credit or debit card from your console or at one of the online Microsoft stores. As an alternative, you can buy a physical Gold card at a retailer.
If you are on an Xbox One, you can’t use an Xbox or Windows Gift Card to purchase Xbox 360 games or any other digital content from your Xbox One.
Another thing you can’t do with your gift card is buy physical products from the Microsoft online store. This means you can’t use your gift card balance to buy items like laptops, game controllers, phones, tablets and other products.
So if you were given an Xbox or Windows Gift Card, you will not be able to use it to buy Xbox Live Gold. Instead, you need to get the actual Xbox Live Gold card or Gold prepaid code. Gold subscriptions come in one, three or twelve month subscriptions and you cannot use an Xbox Live Gold card to buy anything else except a Gold subscription. That’s because if anyone gets a hold of your gift card code, there’s nothing stopping them from redeeming it for themselves before you do. So when you get your Xbox Gift Cards go ahead and stack that money into your account!

You’ll need an Xbox or Microsoft account first. And this next part is really important, the sender and receiver have to live in the same region or country. For example, a resident in the US can’t send a digital game to a resident of Canada. Hope that makes sense!
If you already have an account, log in at Xbox.com. Then find the game you want to give. You can also click the magnifying glass and do a search. in this video, I’m looking for Riders Republic. On the webpage, if I click on the green button to simply buy the game, then Riders Republic will be purchased for my own account and that’s definitely not what I want.
Instead, click on the 2nd grey button just to the right of the cart button. I think it has a gift card icon on it. Here’s where I can buy this game as a gift instead of buying it for myself. A window will pop up where I’ll enter the email address of the person I want to send the game to. Or I can enter my own email address. Either way works because I’m just buying an Xbox code. If I enter my own address, I’ll receive the code which I can hold onto. And I’ll be able to forward it to anyone at any time. Either way, the code will be sent as soon as it’s paid for. Click Next when done.
On the next page I’ll enter a sender name. Now click Next and I’ll complete the payment information. When done, click on the blue Buy as Gift button. And then the game will be sent to the email address I entered earlier.
At some point, it’s a good idea to check whether the recipient received the code. That’s because anyone who gets access to the code will be able to use it. So encourage the recipient redeem it right away. If for some reason no one redeems the code, I can actually use it for myself or give it to someone else.
If the game code somehow gets lost, here’s how to find the game code after the purchase. Again, log into Xbox.com and I’ll click on the profile icon on the top right of the page. Then click on the My Microsoft Account button. Expand the Order History and here I can see everything I’ve purchased. I’ll select Riders Republic and the Order Details page will pop up. Now, click on the View Gift Code button to recover a lost game code. And now I just need to copy this and resend it or give it to someone else. And it’s important to copy all all 25 digits or it won’t work.

I’ve received quite a few questions asking if you can use an Xbox Gift Card to buy the EA Access membership. So in this quick video, I’ll explain the situation. EA Access is available for $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year. Seems pretty straight-forward but Microsoft isn’t the best at explaining what you can buy with their gift cards. So the short answer is no… You cannot buy an EA Access membership with your Xbox Gift Card. Microsoft Points don’t work either. And there’s not really any good explanation for this. It’s a Microsoft policy. It’s definitely a bummer if you just got some gift cards you want to use.
So here are your options for buying an EA Access membership. First, you can use a credit card linked to your Xbox account. But many people don’t have a credit card or don’t want to give Microsoft their credit card number.
The only other way is to buy an EA Access digital code from an online reseller. My choice would be at Amazon.com. On Amazon, once you buy the code, it will be emailed to you within a few minutes. Then just go to your Xbox to redeem the code. But right now. Amazon seems to only have 12-month subscriptions. Another option is buying at Xbox.com but that essentially is the same as giving Microsoft your credit card number to buy EA Access. I haven’t been able to confirm whether physical EA Access cards at brick-and-mortar stores exist at this time. The only thing I found at Best Buy was the EA Cash Card but that only works on Origin.com for their PC based games. Not for Xbox games. So the choices are very limited.
