Starbucks Rewards Visa Card Review

If you are a fan of Starbucks – you may want to apply for a Starbucks Rewards Credit Card issued by Chase Bank. Starbucks Credit card offers 4,500 stars after you spend $500 within the first 3 Months. The bonus is worth $200 in items at a Starbucks store. Then you earn 1 star for every $2 spent with the credit card in grocery stores, rideshare, public transit expenses, internet, cell phone and cable. 3 stars for every $1 spent for Starbucks purchases and 1 star for $4 on everything else. The value of one star is around 3 cents. It sounds like a good cashback, but you cannot transfer the Starbucks Rewards anywhere else. Even though stars do not expire, don’t hoard them. Other benefits of the Starbucks Rewards Credit Card include purchase protection, extended warrant and trip cancellation insurance. To get this card you will need Good to excellent credit score.
The Starbucks Credit Card has no annual fee for the first year and $49 after that. There is 3% foreign transaction fee, so it is not good when you travel outside of the US. This card is good for Starbucks fans, but for everyone else it is not worth the annual fee.

Capital One Platinum Credit Card

You can get a Capital One Platinum Secured Card even with a bad credit score. The credit card has pre-approval, so you can estimate your chances of being approved. Using a Capital One Platinum MasterCard to build credit or repair your credit is a good idea. Unlike some other secured credit cards, this Capital One Platinum Card has no annual fee. If you are approved you can get a credit limit above $200. But you will need to make a security deposit equal to your credit limit. To raise your credit limit you can deposit up to a maximum of $1,000. However, after 6 months you can be automatically considered for a higher credit line. It is a refundable security deposit that you will receive back when you close the credit card or after graduation. An important benefit of the Capital One Platinum Secured Card is that it has graduation. Graduation means if you make payments on time and your credit increase – Capital One may return your security deposit as a statement credit and upgrade your secured credit card to unsecured. However, graduation is not guaranteed. Make sure to set up auto payment, to avoid late payment fees. And it will increase your chances of graduation. The purpose of this credit card is to build your credit score, so don’t expect many benefits.
Capital One Platinum Card offers no rewards, no bonus, no intro APR and regular APR is 25%. The main benefit is that Capital One reports how you use credit to all 3 major credit bureaus – TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian. The credit card has an EMV chip for additional security and contactless payments. Capital One Credit Card has a foreign transaction fee of 3%. So the card is not good for travelers. Overall this secured credit card is good if you want to build a relationship with Capital One Bank. As an alternative, consider secured credit cards from Discover Bank or US Bank.

What does it mean when a transaction is pending?

When you see a pending transaction on your credit card or bank account you may ask.
What does it mean when a transaction is pending?
When will it clear?
Pending means a transaction to withdraw money from your account or add money to your account has been submitted but isn’t complete.
The pending date may be referred to as a “transaction date”.
It is the start of a process that includes some back and forth operation between the place you made the purchase and your bank that manages the credit or debit account.
Once the transaction is cleared – pending transaction becomes posted.
The amount of a pending transaction may differ from the amount that’s posted to your account.
This is because merchants may pre-authorize an amount before the transaction’s complete.
Posted amounts can increase or decrease from pending.
For example, when you purchase gas, the station might pre-authorize your account for $100.
If so, you will only see a $100 pending transaction on your checking account or credit card.
But once your payment clears, the final amount posted will lower to how much money you actually spent on gas.
The same thing can happen if you add a tip at a restaurant; the pending transaction will usually show the pre-tip total, while the posted transaction will reflect the bill plus the tip you added.

How long do Pending transactions take to clear?

Pending transaction is a recent transaction that has not yet been fully processed. When you use your credit card or debit card to pay for something, a certain amount of money is reserved to clear the transaction. Simple transactions when you buy something in a retail store take one business day.
They are cleared when the merchant closes the store. So it takes one business day. Some transactions like when you buy gas at a gas station clear within a couple of days. When you rent a car or reserve a hotel – transactions can take up to 5 days to clear. When you deposit money or make a transfer – transactions can clear within 2 days. Keep in mind that paper check deposit transactions can bounce back and if you already spent the money it makes your balance negative.

Shopping Cart Trick How it works

The Shopping cart trick is an easy way to get a credit card without a credit score check.
The credit card you may get is a department store credit card issued by Comenity Bank or Synchrony Bank.
These banks issue a lot of store credit cards.

Here is how the shopping card trick works.
Some online-stores can show you a prescreened offer right when you are going through the checkout process on their website.
The credit cards offered are branded with the store you are using.

Here is what you can do to have better chances of getting the popup offer.
Cleanup your cookies, browsing history etc. Or just use incognito mode. Enable pop ups, because otherwise the offer may be blocked.
Visit the website of some store and join it’s loyalty program.
Add some stuff to the shopping cart so that the amount is more than $50 and less than $150. Below $50 means you are not worth the offer, and above $150 would mean that they should give you at least $200 credit limit. Which is not the case.
Start checkout and don’t rush. In this case you may get the popup offer which means you are pre-approved. Don’t checkout until you get the popup offer.
The popup offer means that you were pre-approved.

Sometimes it doesn’t check your credit score, but in most cases it checks only one credit bureau. It will result in a hard inquiry, but the inquiry will appear in one credit bureau. And your credit score for other bureaus will not be affected.
